In the Wilderness, pt 2

Feb 1, 2026    Pastor Doug Kirkman

There’s more to the wilderness than meets the eye. There’s a danger we don’t expect; a threat we overlook.

Most of us assume the wilderness is dangerous because of what’s outside: the heat, the hunger, the enemies, the uncertainty. But Numbers shows us something else: Israel’s greatest battles weren’t fought against fierce giants—but faithless attitudes.

The enemy wasn’t the Amalekites or the Canaanites. The enemy wasn’t the desert; it was discontent.

And before we point fingers at Israel, we need to understand something important: The same wilderness that reveals God’s faithfulness also reveals human rebellion. Because the wilderness doesn’t just test faith—it exposes the heart.
