The Bible is clear that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus alone! The moment a person truly believes in Jesus Christ, he or she is saved and given eternal life. It is unbiblical to say that salvation is received by faith, but then has to be maintained by our works. 

Galatians 3:1-3 ESV O foolish Galatians…let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? 

If we are saved by faith, our salvation is also maintained and secured by faith. We cannot earn our salvation by works, and we cannot maintain our salvation by works! It is God who gives us eternal life, and it is God who maintains our salvation (Jude 24). However, Scripture is clear that there WILL BE EVIDENCE of a new life!
