These words were spoken by the Gentiles and repeated by the Israelites! (Even the pagan unbelievers could see what great things God had done!) Although the author of this Psalm is unknown, it is believed to have been written by the Israelites to celebrate their journey from their home to Jerusalem for their annual pilgrimages.

Generally, the phrase acknowledges and celebrates God’s Sovereignty. Specifically, it remembers the many times and powerful ways that God delivered the Israelites from oppression & bondage, from hunger & thirst, and from sickness & death! Even the ways that He cared for them, warned them, and dealt with them patiently/lovingly!
